Retirement age for civil service raised to 58: My opinion

From The Star’s news today:

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced Saturday that the retirement age for civil servants will be raised from 56 to 58.

The move will be effective from July 1.

Abdullah said the decision to raise the retirement age was made after considering its impact on job opportunities for fresh graduates.

The article haven’t mentioned what reasons why government now increase the age to 58. What do yo think about this? In my opinion, it is true that giving civil servants work for more ages and by that they can feed their family. But, when you are at age 58, wouldn’t you think to get rest and enjoy your golden years? By age of 55, I don’t think you want to work harder anymore. The spirit and passion is not there.

What action that we have to take now is to prepare for our retirement. What sort of retirement do you want to live? How much your funds for that? It is much more important rather than just increase retirement just by 2 years and hire people that really don’t want to work anymore :) I am sorry civil servants!
